Charlotte McCain Ferguson

Charlotte McCain Ferguson, 81, passed away December 10, 2013. She was the daughter of George W. and Grace McCain, grew up in Tunica County and attended Mississippi College for Women, now Mississippi University for Women. She was retired from Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia where she was equipment specialist for the Career Technical Department. She was a member of Hernando Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, N. C. Ferguson.

She leaves three children, Rubye Ferguson Walton and her husband Mike of Tunica, Linda Ferguson Cox and her husband Danny from Bossier City, La., and N. C. “Tom” Ferguson, Jr. of Hernando; and her sister, Lynne McCain Ware of St. Simmons Island, Ga. She also leaves five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. 

Visitation was held Thursday, December 12 at Brantley-Phillips Funeral Home of Hernando. Funeral services were held Friday, December 13 at 10 a.m. also at Brantley-Phillips.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Northwest Mississippi Jr. College Foundation.


Celisia Sharde Frost


Celisia Sharde Frost, 21, of Coldwater, Miss., passed away December 9, 2013. Funeral services were held at New Garden M. B. Church in Coldwater on Saturday, December 14. Burial followed in New Garden Cemetery in Coldwater.

She is survived by her mother, Lynn Frost of Memphis, Tenn.; father and stepmother, Zondrus and Christina Todd; sisters, Aunica Frost of Memphis, Tenn. and Jalessa McDonald of Tunica; brothers, Rodrickas Morris of Memphis, Tenn., Demetrius Todd of Memphis, Tenn. and Jimmy McDonald of Tunica; grandparents, Betty Todd of Coldwater and Macon Todd of Coldwater.

Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater had charge of the arrangements.


Leland Gough

Leland Gough passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on December 8, 2013, just four days shy of his 89th birthday.  

Leland was born in Whynot, Miss., and grew up in Meridian. He graduated from Meridian High School and continued his education at the University of Mississippi graduating with a degree in Accounting. 

He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army Air Corp.  Mr. Gough received his CPA certificate and began working as Comptroller and company pilot for Cooper Tire and Rubber Company. 

Following his tenure at Cooper Tire he became Trust Officer at the Bank of Clarksdale attending Northwestern Trust School in Chicago and the LSU School of Banking. In 1973 he became President of Peoples Bank, Senatobia, where he continued until his retirement in 1997. 

Mr. Gough belonged to several civic clubs including Rotary and Chamber of Commerce and was a lifetime member of the American Institute of Accountants. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Harvesters Men’s Sunday school class.  

Back Acres Country Club was home where he enjoyed playing golf and cheering on his Ole Miss Rebels. 

Leland leaves his wife of 57 years, Annie, daughter, Gayla Lindsey (Alan), son, Greg L. (Stephanie), four grandchildren, Katherine, Jonathan, Taylor, and Emilee, brother, Connell (Helen), sister, Eloise Ellis, brother-in-law, Grover McDonald, and sister-in-law, Sally Gough. 

Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church Senatobia and Magnolia Heights School. 

Services were held Wednesday, December 11, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church Senatobia. Burial followed in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery.

Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia had charge of the arrangements.


Ricky Mancell Luther


Ricky Mancell Luther, 63, of Looxahoma, passed away December 11, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital DeSoto. Services were held Friday, December 13, at 1:00 p.m. at Thyatira Church of Christ. Burial followed in Thyatira Cemetery. 

He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Luther of Looxahoma; daughter, Stacey Leigh Luther of Walls; son, Anthony B. Luther of Looxahoma; sisters, Glenda Sue Meredith of Poagville, Rita Kay Ford and Connie Denise Hunt both of Senatobia; brothers, Larry Dean Luther of Como, and Lennie C. Luther of Brandon; 14 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.  

He was a member of Thyatira Church of Christ. 

Mr. Luther was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the Mississippi National Guard.

Trent Obrisha Mosley

Trent Obrisha Mosley, 35, health care provider, of Senatobia, Miss., passed away December 6, 2013. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 14 at 12 noon at Thyatira Church of Christ in Senatobia. Burial followed in Carter Memorial Cemetery in Como.

She is survived by her mother, Arma Dean Cathey Mosley and Eldridge Mosley of Senatobia; sisters, Stephanie Mosley of Coldwater and Valerie Mosley of Senatobia; a brother, Eldridge C. Mosley of Coldwater; and grandfather, Willie Cathey of Holly Springs.

Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater had charge of the arrangements.


Johnny Newson

Johnny “Bob” Newson, 76, of Senatobia, Miss., passed away December 7, 2013. Funeral services were held at West Gilmore Church of Christ in Senatobia on December 14 at 12 noon. Burial followed in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery.

He is survived by six daughters, Gwenever Newson, Mary Debra Tillman, Valeria Newson Nelson, Tarida Newson House, all of Valle Jo, Calif., Ja’Nea Beaux and Ja’Netta Beaux, both of Richmond, Calif.; sons, six sons, Chris Shields of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Lawrence Newson of Valle Jo, Calif., Georgry Elion of Houston, Texas, Michael Woodard of Memphis, Tenn., Johnny Carter of Senatobia, and Steven Newson of Valle Jo, Calif.; eight sisters, Bennie Newson of Senatobia, Ruby Hubbard of Eda, Tenn., Mary A. Cathey of Holly Springs, Mary J. Hugery of Senatobia, Martha J. Mosley of Senatobia, Jacqueline Williams of Senatobia, Charlene Hayslett of Horn Lake, and Pearlie M. Atkins of Memphis, Tenn.; brothers, Frank J. Newson of Memphis, Tenn., Jessie J. Newson of Senatobia, M C. Jeter, Willie L. Geter, Rudell Geter, Andra Geter, Ronnie Geater and Issac Jeter, all of Senatobia; and a host of grandchildren.

Felix Cauthen Funeral Home in Senatobia had charge of the arrangements.


Lucille B. Townsend


Lucille B. Townsend, 82, of Coldwater, Miss., passed away December 8, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital DeSoto. Services were held Wednesday, December 11, at 10:00 a.m. at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial followed in Milligan Springs Cemetery in Stewart, Miss.  

She is survived by her son, Luther Townsend of Independence, MS; brother, W. Hugh Burchfield of Nesbit, MS; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mrs. Townsend was a member of First Baptist Church Coldwater.
