Charles Milton Bratton, Sr.


Mr. Charles Milton Bratton, Sr., 86, of Elberton, Georgia passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Bratton was born July 17, 1926, in Sardis, Mississippi to Allie Mae and Theo Bratton.

Mr. Bratton is survived by his wife, Louise, of 67 years; son, Charles M. Bratton, Jr. of College Grove Tennessee; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Bob Hardy of Elberton; three brothers, Robert (Grace) Bratton of Southaven, Mississippi, Willard Bratton of Pope, Mississippi, and Larry Bratton of Gulf Shores, Alabama; and a sister Lyda (Travis) Lunceford of Charlotte, North Carolina. Also surviving are three grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

Mr. Bratton was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Lenoir B. McNeill.

Mr. Bratton spent ten years as an FBI agent, and he retired from Sears after thirty years of service as a retail controller and accounting center manager.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 7, at 2:00 p.m. at Elberton First Baptist Church with Reverend Raymond Scott officiating. Visitation was held Sunday, January 6, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hicks Funeral Home. Interment was at Forest Hills Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, The R.O.C. at FBC or The Organ Fund at FBC, 132 Heard Street, Elberton 30635.

Charles Cecil Darnell


Charles Cecil Darnell, 81, of Tate County, Miss., entered into eternal rest January 7, 2013, at VA Medical Center in Memphis. Charles served in the US Army, during the Korean War, and was awarded a Purple Heart.

He is survived by his five children, Chris Darnell of Hernando, Tim Darnell, Eric Darnell, Shelia Adams of Coldwater, Janet McElhaney of Senatobia; along with 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, as well as two sisters, Theresa Adair, and Mary Nell Russell; and his brother, Aaron Darnell of Coldwater.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, A. C. Darnell and Eunice Moore Darnell; two brothers, Gerald Darnell and Mitchell Darnell of Coldwater; and his wife, Mary Lois Ward Darnell.

Visitation was held at Abundant Life Worship Center in Independence on Thursday, January 10. Funeral services were held Friday, January 11. Interment was in Jamison Cemetery in Independence.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Abundant Life Worship Center, P. O. Box 110 Independence, MS 38638.

Arrangements were entrusted to High Point Funeral Home and Cremation, 3788 Summer Avenue, Memphis, Tenn.


Anthony Wayne Farrow


Anthony Wayne Farrow, 44, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2012, at his home in Coldwater, Miss.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert M. Farrow; one sister, Lesa Farrow; and one niece, Nena Farrow.

He leaves behind his wife Tracy Farrow, his mother Ann Farrow, three daughters Dana McKinney, Ashley Priddy, and Kristie Farrow, five grandchildren, one sister Sandy Tremor, and his mother in law Frankie Gadd.
Visitation was held Thursday, January 3 from 9 until 11 a.m. Funeral service followed at 11 a.m. all at Brantley Funeral Home. Burial was in Lebanon Cemetery.


J. H. "Rooster" Heffner


J. H. "Rooster" Heffner, 75, of Sardis, Miss., passed away January 5, 2013 at his residence. Services were held Saturday, January 12, at 12 noon at North Panola High School Auditorium in Sardis. Burial followed in Paradise Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Heffner of Sardis; daughters, Rosemary Clark, Linda Draper, Caroline Ward, Barbara Heffner, Brenda Edwards, Sandra Leverson, Maunika Hightower, all of Sardis, Sherry Heffner, Sherrill Heffner, both of Como, Virginia Ross of Batesville, Annie Bobo and Linda Faye Collins, both of Senatobia; sons, David Heffner, Bobby Heffner, James Heffner, Dewayne Heffner, Henry Lee Leverson, Willie Charles Leverson, Nathan Thomas, Rodregus Thomas, all of Sardis. David Jackson, Derrick Shaw, both of Senatobia, J. D. Jackson of Milwaukee, Wis., James Herron of Coldwater, and Jessie Wilbourn of Como; sisters, Mary Ann Moss, Hazel Jackson, both of Senatobia, Bobby Jean Frazier, Louella Heffner Worten, Constance Heffner, all of Memphis, Tenn., and Florence Stewart of El Paso, Texas; brothers, T. J. Heffner, Flavous Heffner, Sammy Heffner, Douglas Heffner, Russell Heffner, Roger Heffner, all of Memphis, Tenn., and R. J. Jackson of Senatobia; 100 plus grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.


Gene Parker


Gene Parker, 74, passed away January 1, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Elizabeth Parker. He is also preceded in death by his two sons, Robert Eugene "Bobby" Parker, and Mark Anthony Parker.

He leaves his daughter, Gwendolyn Johnston (Tracy); two brothers, Walker Parker, Jr., and Milton Parker. He also leaves a grandson, Aaron Tray.
Visitation was held Saturday, January 5, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. The funeral followed at 3:00 p.m. at Brantley Funeral Home. Burial was at Forest Hill Cemetery South.

Betty Herndon Putt


Betty Herndon Putt, 83, passed away on January 8, 2013 at Attala Nursing Home in Kosciusko, Miss. She was a retired sales clerk for Smith & Byars Menswear and attended Fellowship Baptist Church in Starkville, Miss.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton Herndon and Hattie Mae Barnette Herndon; husband, Louie Aylon Putt; and sister, Marie Simonds.

She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Phelps (James) of Bartlett, Tenn.; sons, Mike Putt (Linda) of Senatobia, Miss., Rodney Putt (Karen) of Kosciusko, Miss.; and Bruce Putt (Wendy) of Flowood, Miss.; grandchildren, Jimmy, Jason, and Jon Phelps, Melissa Flaskamp, Mandy Shipman, Aylon Putt, Lindsay Dickerson, and Taylor, Harrison, and Julia Putt; and great grandchildren, Noah Flaskamp, Jessica, Jordan, Taylor, and Jack Phelps, Mary Margaret and Sam Shipman, Cooper Putt, and Brett and Makynlee Dickerson.

Visitation for Mrs. Putt was scheduled for Wednesday, January 9, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, Miss., and then on Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Funeral services immediately followed in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Barry Corbett conducted the service. Burial was in New Harmony Cemetery in New Albany, Miss.

Doris Cagle Sweat


Mrs. Doris Cagle Sweat, 85, of Como, MS, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Hot Springs, Ark.

Mrs. Sweat, a member of Harmontown Baptist Church, is survived by two sons, Jack Orman (Tammy) of Pearcy, Ark. and Bobby Orman (Patty) of Como, Miss.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clarence Orman and Pete Sweat.

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 7, 2013 in the Senatobia Chapel of Ray-Nowell Funeral Home. Burial followed in Harmontown Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was at the funeral home on Monday from 12-2pm.

Ray-Nowell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


William "Tommy" Terry


William "Tommy" Terry, 68, of Coldwater, Miss., passed away January 5, 2013 at his home. Services were held Tuesday, January 8, at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Hernando. Burial followed in Palestine Cemetery in Coldwater.

Mr. Terry was a Army veteran having served in the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife, Margie Pryor Terry of Coldwater; one son, Adrian Terry of Fort Benning, Ga.; two stepsons, Mark Rines (Sheila) and Clifford Woolfolk (Tracy) both of Coldwater; three sisters, Joyce Bynum (Bill) of Kingsville, Texas, Glenda Treadway (Lawrence) and Martha Blumer (Chuck) both of Coldwater; three step grandchildren, DeAnna Sanders, Zachary Rines and Jay Woolfolk; and two step great grandchildren, Landon Rines and Emily Sanders.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Daisy Terry; brother, James Earl Terry; and sisters, Patty Terry Meredith and Mildred Terry Roberson.

Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia had charge of the arrangements.


Lorene W. Waldrop


Lorene W. Waldrop, 91, of Millington, Tenn., formerly of Senatobia, Miss., passed away on January 6, 2013 at the Millington Healthcare Center. Services were held Tuesday, January 8, at 11:00 a.m. at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial followed in Bethesda Cemetery.

She was a retired dry goods store owner and a member of First Baptist Church Millington.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, T.F. Daniel and Raymond C. Waldrop; her daughter, Brenda Daniel Sanders and her son, Billy Joe "Danny" Daniel.

She is survived by a stepson, Gene Waldrop (Gail) of Collierville, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Jane Pyle (Larry) of Spring Grove, Pa.; and by her daughter-in-law, whom she lived with, Diane Daniel of Millington, Tenn.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to the charity of the donor's choice.
