The Coldwater Cougars' quest for consecutive state championship has come to an end in Jackson. The Cougars, facing the Biggersville Lions in a rematch of the 2012 state championship game, were defeated to the tune of 62-53. The game was also a rematch of the Feb. 23 North State Championship, a game during which Coldwater soundly defeated the Lions 75-55. Biggersville began to take control of the state championship matchup in the second quarter, eventually heading into the half with a 30-24 lead. Despite a more intense second half defensive effort, the Cougars couldn't get their shots to fall, and were unable to regain control of the contest. The Cougars finish the season as the runner up in the Mississippi Class 1A division, and champions of the Class 1A North State Tournament. Coldwater finished the season with a record of 28-4.
