I think it's sad how ignorant some people are that they think we're going to get "big" restaurants here when Southaven and Batesville already have those chains they're thinking of. The increased tax revenues from the liquor stores, which is really all we're going to get, will be spent on extra police to try and offset the increased crime.

The only thing that the "prohibition" law in Tate County has accomplished is making the counties adjacent to us richer, as anyone that wants alcohol only needs to make a 15 minute drive. It will never happen, but the tax revenue could be used to reduce the out of control property tax rates in this county. Once a government has enacted a tax amount, it is there no matter the revenue increase. At least it could help Senatobia lure more decent restaraunts, as they now stay away because of the dry conditions.

Although I'm not a drinker, nor do I condone the use of alcohol, I'm a firm believer in the rights of people. Folks have a right to sale what they want. And the government does not, in my opinion, have the right to prohibit the sale of something that is nationally recognized as legal. If you do not want to purchase something, do not purchase it. If you don't want your kids drinking, raise them correctly. Keep them in Church. But don't regulate everything. Its a liberal idea and I refuse to fall in with the other conservatives who "self-righteously" say that others shouldn't be able to buy it. We need more morals. Not more government.
