The City of Senatobia's Industrial Park will soon have one new tenant, as Clark Beverage Company has agreed to locate to the city, potentially bringing with it up to 35 new jobs. The news came during a recent meeting of the Senatobia Board of Aldermen, as the board authorized the sale of an 8.02 acre parcel of land to Clark Beverage Company. The property is located due south of Carlisle Syntec in the city's industrial park on Scott Street, said Senatobia Mayor Alan Callicott. Clark Beverage is a distribution facility based out of Kentucky that distributes, Coca-Cola products and beers such as Miller and Coors, among others. The mayor said that he wasn't sure on an exact number of jobs that the company is expected to create, but that there had been estimates of around 35 new jobs. "At this point, I don't care if it's two new jobs in our community. That's families that can be affected and impacted in our community, so 35 would be great. It's terrific," Callicott said. The city approved the selling of alcohol during a January 29 election, but the mayor said that he didn't think the timing of the deal with the beverage distributor had anything to do with the election. "I think that it's just coincidence that this project has finally come about at about the time of our election that we had, because it has been in the (works) for a while," Callicott said. According to Callicott, former Tate County Economic Development Foundation Executive Director Janie Mortimer began working on the project around 18 months ago. Callicott said that the city has quoted the company a price of $10,000 per acre, for a total of $80,200. "Our goal is to have investment in our community and to have jobs on the ground in our community," Callicott said. "They have committed to a very nice facility where they will distribute and hire some folks." The company is expected to construct a 20,000 square-foot facility "with room to grow," according to Callicott. Board member Michael Cathey made the motion to approve the sale and Mike Putt seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous.
