"If it's good for Tate county it is good for the newspaper. It is not our desire to come to Senatobia and live off the community but to live with and prosper with it." --Joe Lee (December 25, 1901 to October 13, 1972)

The Democrat, the Democrat Extra, and TheDemocrat.com are products of North Mississippi Newspapers, Inc. The small, community weekly is one of the country's dwindling number of locally owned independent weekly newspapers. It is the oldest continuously operating business enterprise in Tate County; first published in 1881. The Democrat is distributed each Tuesday to nearly 5,200 North Mississippi households. Combined with the weekly free distribution Democrat Extra, The Democrat reaches a total of more than 38,750 area consumers in more than 15,500 households. These powerful printed products along with TheDemocrat.com make it the most powerful advertising medium in the area. Advertising deadlines are noon Thursdays for Classified Line Ads and noon Wednesdays for Display/Retail Ads. The Tate County newspapers and their sister publications 58 miles south in Grenada are operated by second and third generation newspapermen. Joe Lee III is publisher of the Senatobia and Grenada newspapers. Other family members involved include Brenda Rush Lee and Muffet Lee McPhail.
